BTS Building envelope: design and construction

The building envelope is the physical interface separating the interior of a building from its external environment.

Through the quality of its design and the highly technical nature of its conception, the building envelope reflects the creativity and innovation of modern or traditional architecture, while providing numerous technical functions.

The building envelope provides occupants with thermal and acoustic comfort and controlled natural lighting, while ensuring high energy and environmental performance. It also contributes to the protection of goods and people against bad weather and intrusions.

Given the growing issues of environmental impact and the quest for high energy performance, the building envelope is a professional field that is constantly on the watch and constantly evolving technologically.

The senior building envelope technician can be employed in a construction or renovation company, in a design or engineering office, in an insurance firm... but also by a manufacturer or merchant of materials, equipment and materials.

He is responsible for designing and producing the exterior finishes of the building, cladding facades and roofs. He knows how to detect environmental constraints when using the building in terms of heat, acoustics and lighting. They draw up technical studies, and organise and supervise the work. They draw up cost estimates and quotations, keeping track of site cash flow.

Technological and vocational courses and vocational courses focus on:

• accounting, commercial and financial management

• building engineering sciences: architecture, mechanical study of envelope components, building thermics, acoustics, natural lighting, fire safety
  
• materials technology, application and construction principles principles: coatings, glass products, joinery products, aluminium aluminium joinery products, protection, waterproofing and closure products, roofing, cladding, joints
• the economics and organisation of an operation: estimating and financial management of an costs and prices, operating procedures and resources, planning and coordination, construction law

General teaching covers:

General culture and expression, English,Mathematics,Physics, Chemistry

• Diploma from the Ministry of National Education and Youth Level 5 (BTS)

Technological, general or vocational baccalaureate in the building sector (Bac STI2D preferred) or proof of a level IV and/or 2 years' professional experience.
