On completion of their training, shop sales staff will be able to contribute to the attractiveness of the merchandising unit and satisfy demand, they make products available to customers. He (she) greets them attentively and responds to their requests in order to ensure their satisfaction and strengthen their loyalty.

  • He (she) is responsible for stocking, showcasing the products in a department or sales outlet.
  • He/she takes delivery of goods, takes part in stock-keeping, arranges products in accordance with the needs and expectations of customers, including the specific needs of people with disabilities.
  • He/she guarantees the marking out and labelling of products on the shelf, constantly ensures the cleanliness of the department or sales outlet. He/she counts stock to prepare orders or carry out inventories.
  • He/she facilitates commercial relations with customers, guides and advises them. He/she collects payments and processes customer orders placed online or in the shopping centre.
  • He/she takes part in setting up commercial and promotional operations.

The job involves working in small, medium-sized or large food, non-food or specialist stores, in a noisy environment where temperatures can vary considerably. The job requires a lot of movement around the sales area and stockroom, with handling that may involve wearing protective equipment (PPE, CACES).

Depending on the constraints of the business, customer flows and unforeseen events, working hours may be staggered. They may be required to work on Sundays and public holidays.

He/she works in compliance with the principles of safety and optimisation of effort and applies preventive measures against the risks associated with his/her working environment.

Through his/her day-to-day actions, he/she will participate in the fight against shrinkage and the implementation of his/her company's corporate social responsibility (CSR) policy.


The course is organised into several skill modules, enabling step-by-step progression. It alternates between theoretical input, practical application and assessment sessions to promote practical and progressive learning.

Introduction : Exploring the professional context: key issues, role, perception of the profession, social and environmental responsibility, assessments and possible adjustment of the programme

 BC01 - Making the retail unit’s products available to customers in an omnichannel environment

Assessment through role-play scenarios and questions from the panel, with the production of a slideshow

 The professional qualification is obtained by accumulating professional competence certificates (CCPs); each CCP is a standalone qualification 

Throughout the programme, learners receive personalised support with regular monitoring by the teaching team and progress reviews to tailor the learning to each individual’s needs.

A work placement also enables learners to develop their professional skills in a real-world setting.

Skills are assessed progressively through role-plays, practical exercises, professional projects and assessments carried out throughout the course.

Our teaching methodology prioritises a practical, work-focused approach: case studies, role-plays, practical scenarios and collaborative activities enable learning in conditions that closely resemble the real-world workplace.

Equivalences and pathways: to be assessed on a case-by-case basis depending on the candidate’s background: Following a vocational training course for Sales Assistants (Professional qualification generally at Level 3 – equivalent to CAP/BEP), several career paths or progression options are available. Direct entry into the workforce Positions available: Self-service assistant Shop assistant Stock clerk Retail sales assistant All-round retail assistant Cashier. Further study in retail Possible courses: CAP in General Retail Assistant (depending on initial background) Vocational Baccalaureate in Retail and Sales Professional qualification in Sales Advisor Professional qualification in Retail Unit Assistant Manager. Progression to higher-level professional qualifications After gaining experience or completing further training: TP Sales Advisor (level 4) TP Retail Unit Manager (level 5). Career progression with experience With experience in retail or commerce: Assistant Department Manager, Department Manager, Store Manager (after several years and further training).

Teachers certified by the French Education Nationale, Bac +3 trainers with significant experience in adult training, professional speakers.


For this professional qualification, ongoing assessments (ECF) are organised throughout the course to evaluate the candidate’s progress and their mastery of professional skills.

The final examination takes place before a two-member examination panel comprising professionals from the sector. It comprises a professional role-play and an interview based on the professional portfolio (DP), which highlights the experience and skills developed by the candidate.

The final examination takes place within two months of the end of the training course.

The examination panel validates all or part of the Professional Qualification. In the event of partial validation, the professional competence certificates (CCP) (or competence modules) obtained are valid for a period of five years.

The candidate may subsequently complete the missing modules to obtain the Professional Qualification in its entirety.
