The field of activity of the senior technician holding option B ("refrigeration and air conditioning") is essentially centred on the cold chain and air treatment (commercial and industrial refrigeration and air conditioning). It is involved at all stages of a project, from design and construction to equipment maintenance.

The holder of this BTS is able to:

  • maintain a perishable product at an appropriate temperature from production to consumption
  • maintain a desired atmosphere according to the needs of an industrial process
  • implement technical solutions that take into account the environment and the importance of energy savings
  • size, define and represent installations using computer tools, produce schematics, cost, plan and control installation work, commission and optimise equipment.
  • advise customers from different business sectors (food retailers, restaurant owners, local authorities, as well as manufacturers, hospital services and the professions).

The course is organised into several skill modules, enabling step-by-step progression. It alternates between theoretical input, practical exercises and assessment sessions to promote hands-on, progressive learning.

General education modules

General knowledge and expression, English, Mathematics and Physics-Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry

Throughout the course, learners receive personalised support with regular monitoring by the teaching team and progress reviews to tailor learning to each individual’s needs.

A work placement also enables learners to develop professional skills in a real-world setting.

Skills are assessed progressively through role-plays, practical exercises, professional projects and assessments carried out throughout the course.

Our teaching methodology prioritises a practical, work-focused approach: case studies, role-plays, practical scenarios and collaborative activities enable learners to learn in conditions that closely resemble the real working world.

Maximum total duration of 3,650 hours, including 2,300 hours in a company and 1,350 hours at the training centre.

Assessments are organised throughout the course and at the end of the programme, in accordance with the qualification framework. Assessment tests may take the form of in-course assessments (CCF) and/or final examinations.

Support with exam preparation is provided throughout the course to help candidates succeed.

This qualification is awarded following validation by the academic examination board.

If a candidate fails the qualification, they retain credit for the modules they have passed and may retake the remaining examinations at a later date. The modules passed remain valid for 5 years

The holder of the BTS FED - Fluides Energies Domotique - Option B Froid et conditionnement d'air (Refrigeration and air conditioning) practises their profession in the following fields:

1- Employment: thermal engineering technician, technical sales representative, home automation specialist, technical building systems designer, project manager, site manager, design office technician, engineering assistant, etc.

2- Further study: professional degree with a commercial focus (strategy and management of building companies) or a technical focus (building and construction, electricity and electronics, security systems and remote surveillance) or towards a preparatory class in industrial technology post bac+2 (ATS) to then enter an engineering school.
